Adansonia is the Latin name for the baobab tree. <\/span><\/div>\n
In 2013, I traveled to South Africa for the first time for several months and worked there, among other things, in a game reserve where I could actively participate in nature and species conservation. One day, during one of our drives through the savannah, we found the most beautiful tree I had seen so far. I described the encounter in a blog as follows:<\/span><\/div>\n

\"I got to meet the most beautiful tree in the world today. She is a baobab and well over 1000 years old, I call her Big Mama. Big Mama stands in the middle of Zingela and you have to walk a few minutes into the bush to reach her. Her trunk is so gigantic that it takes more than 10 large men to encompass her and shimmers a deep, bright dusky red. Her entire trunk seems to flow into the ground, thick drops of her wood run down her and her branches reach up into the sky like roots. It makes me cry when I see her. The legend about Baobab trees says that when God created the Baobab, he considered it too beautiful for humans and this world, so he simply turned it upside down so that only he could really see it, thus creating a stake connection between heaven and earth. You can feel this legend when you stand in front of it and around it is a truly magical place.\"<\/span><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The encounter with this impressive tree touches and moves me to this day.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>
I learned in South Africa that the baobab tree, when allowed to develop freely, forms a very smooth bark with very long, massive trunks. Elephants are particularly fond of baobabs and not only gnaw off the bark but even eat large parts of the trunk. The baobab, however, is said to be the only tree that does not depend on its bark for nourishment, and so it does not die, but simply forms new bark on the trunk over time, which then grows in drops over the damaged areas. This is why they are the oldest living trees and can continue to grow even if they are hollowed out to a large extent, for example. It is said that the enormous girth is only possible because of the injuries. In South Africa, there are even bars and prisons built into the hollow trunks of living baobab trees.<\/span><\/div>
(I have not found any scientific evidence for the biological correctness of some of these properties, but still consider them likely).<\/span><\/div>

Die Symbolkraft dieses Baumes fasziniert mich tief. Trotz massiver Besch\u00e4digung schafft er es, auf eigene Art weiterzuwachsen. Am Ende wirkt er durch all die Verletzungen und die dadurch entstandenen Narben umso sch\u00f6ner und sie bef\u00e4higen ihn zu gr\u00f6\u00dferen Wachstum. I imagine the structure of the psyche\/soul, like that of a tree. Our history begins with our family. The history of our ancestors forms the roots for our being. From them we grow, the trunk, the deep structures of our selves. This core of human being looks quite similar in all people. Here we find the basic soul needs of human existence such as, among other things, unconditional love, appreciation, attachment and connection, separation and basic trust. All these things form the basis for our personal being in the world, the way we go into life, the way we are towards ourselves. And then life happens. All these themes grow out like branches in the many layers of our life, forming their own forms and connections. They sprout leaves and bear fruit, nourish us, protect us, we are alive.<\/span><\/div>\n

I base my therapeutic\/counseling work on this image. The issues that we encounter in our lives, and perhaps want to change, are all outgrowths of the basic themes, in the trunk of our soul. In my work I start with you on the branch on which you have just encountered a theme. Together we move at your pace towards the trunk. Sometimes we work on several branches in parallel. In this way we always work in the here and now and move towards the base of the issues. How we get from a branch to your trunk, I do not know, it is your tree. However, I have ideas about what paths might look like, or how we might find yours. I cannot do the heavy soul work for you, but I can accompany you. Therefore, I would call myself a soul midwife. <\/span><\/div>\n
